MALAWI’S FIRST EDM SENSATION, GRISVER TO DROP FUNK AND DISCO INSPIRED EP
Who Is GrisVer?
A young man born & raised in Lilongwe, Malawi. GrisVer is a music producer & sound engineer, with an internationally competitive specialty in making Electronic Dance Music (EDM).
GrisVer draws his influences from artists such as Avicii, Skrillex, Daft Punk and Zedd.
Previous Releases
I have released a lot music, featuring some of Malawi’s top emerging talents such as Dark Shadow, Eril, Luzio & Mungo.
‘Play Time’, an EP released earlier in 2020 was my approach to travel back in time to my childhood, with a lot of references to my personal interests such as an anime called ‘Dragonball’.
I featured a Canadian singer/song-writer named Xtina Jewel on the lead single titled ‘You’, which debuted in first place of Zonse Malawi’s Weekly chart, in June 2020.
What inspired the ‘Funk Your Feelings’ EP?
After expressing my experimental side with my previous EP, I asked almost everyone I could a set of questions on what they liked & disliked about my project, I demanded unfiltered honesty from all participants, some who I didn’t even know personally. With the feedback , I was geared to develop an even better EP to highlight my more ‘Musical’ touch to my production, as I primarily focused on technique prior.
With a love for instruments, I can play guitar and keyboard, and have always wanted to express these instruments in my music. This EP took me out of my comfort zone, as almost all the songs sound like they are being played by a live band which is in contrast to the extremely digital and electronic sounding character that many know my music for.
What is ‘Funk Your Feelings’ About?
When organizing the EP, I wanted it to feel like a fancy ball-room event. Hence why, I titled the opening track ‘Before We Begin’. This signifies an audience arriving at the venue and socializing over drinks before the performances begin. So Ideally, the listener is the 3rd person seeing this event unfold, like a movie of some sort. Once Luzio starts singing later on in the song, the string quartet stops (as the audience is now settled), and Luzio takes over, while singing and performing ‘Can’t Get Enough’ on the piano.
You can literally sing the entire song’s lyrics from the beginning to the end.
This EP aims at exploring the sound and culture of the Disco/funk era of the 1980s. I listened to old songs from acts such as DAZZ BAND, The Whispers, Grandmaster Flash and Mark Morrison. I took a full week listening to only this music, as well as reading up and watching documentaries about that era in general. All these experiences created a foundation for me to find my feet creatively in this new direction to sound I had taken.
80’s disco majorly explores themes such as heart breaks, love and lust. I expressed just that in the EP, bringing in international talents such as Binco and Liam Leon to help convey the emotion in terms of vocals, as well as another singer/songwriter who will be later revealed as she is part of the bonus track that shall be released shortly after the EP.
When will the EP Be Released?
The EP comes out on Saturday, Septemter 12th. The EP will be available on all major streaming platforms and will also be released for FREE DOWNLOAD to the masses, as a means of thanking everyone that supported my previous project and during my promotional content run.
Following me on my various social media platforms will keep you in the loop with all the details, as well some cool giveaways and music videos planned for the near future.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS:- THE G LYNIX REVIEW
The industry has drastically changed in the past few years. Among those changes has been the fall from grace of dancehall factions as the industry has been flooded with hip hop/trap group, eclipsing the once formidable forces such as Archaida Universe and Mabilinganya Empire.
The rise of trap facttions has seen one group rise to prominence in the first half of the year, and that group is G Lynix Music Group.
A 10 member group, G Lynix Music has grabbef the spotlight by the scarf of the neck and hasn’t wavered in it’s pursuit of industry glory.
My first encounter with the group was back in 2019 when they released a song titled “Sooner (feat. Travetta & Picial).” The song went on to spend 2 weeks on the Born & Bred top 10 chart and this was just the beginning of what what was to come.
A record smashing stint followed with their high profile song “Zero Sum Game (perfomed by Neither & Scar).” Debuting on #1 on the Born & Bred chart, going on the spend 5 weeks more on the spot, becoming the only song to spend 6 consecutive weeks on the position it debuted on. The song went on to smash the most votes record (before being displaced), and also remains joint holder for the record of the longest stay on the chart on the show.
It was clear from the get go that the group was not in it for games, they meant business.
Today, the group has released it’s recent single Titled “Outside (Prod by Henwood)” as they plan on keeping the momentum going.
The question now is; Will they carry on with the winds in their sail, or will they crumble with the pressure of the industry?
Let’s wait and see.
